Filthy – Daily Prompt

Filthy

“She’s filthy,” they would say, looking down at me.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, passing me by on the street.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, ignoring my presence to focus on their own.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, laughing at my shriveled form.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, when I finally pulled myself up.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, as I stumbled into the public bathroom.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, children pointing at me as I attempted to clean my face.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, maneuvering around me to avoid bumping into me.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, pretending I don’t have feelings too.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, as I begged for money on the street for a meal.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, as not one coin rolled my way.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, yanking their pristine dogs away from sniffing my hands.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, asking me to leave since I could not pay.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, laughing at my misfortune.

“She’s filthy,” they would say, before continuing on with the rest of their day.

“You’re filthy!” a woman exclaimed, reaching a warm and firm hand out to me.
