Calm Before the Storm

The calm before the storm,

is there really such a thing?

One man’s calm

is another man’s terror.

What defines this kind of peace

that can fluxuate so greatly?

A sense of unity that we feel

over such a foreign concept.

Perhaps it is our minds that percieve

a difference in calm that puts us at rest.

Is this not just peace before sufferring,

unless all along we’ve inferred it wrong?

Imagine that the storm is calm,

then would it not be the calm before more calm?

Or maybe the calm is the storm

and things will only get worse.

How do we percieve where that climactic point is

within our everyday lives trying to stay afloat?

Maybe everything is the calm before the storm

until our minds are opened up by this possibility.

Instead, what if the calm is before our birth,

our lives are the storm, and death is the unknown.

And yet I still ask, the calm before the storm,

is there really such a thing?
